GOYA

The Greek Orthodox Youth of America (GOYA) at St. George is off to an exciting start with several new faces and events for the year. In October, we attended the Witch’s Woods Halloween Fairground In Nashoba Valley and had a wonderful time enjoying seasonal entertainment—hayrides, food and haunted houses! Upcoming events include ice-skating at Boston Common’s Frog Pond and attending a Boston Celtics game at the Garden.

One of the most exciting developments is the addition of a youth room at the church. There are leather coaches, a flat panel TV and ping pong tables so that our youth have a place to relax and enjoy each other’s company.

We welcome and encourage our youth in Grades 7-12 (ages 13-18) to be a part of this fun and exciting ministry. If you have any questions or would like to be added to our email list, please feel free to contact me at stgeorgegoya@yahoo.com

ATHLETICS

GIRLS BASKETBALL PROGRAM
The St. George Youth Girls’ Basketball program meets every Wednesday evening 5:30 p.m. – 7:00 p.m. in the community center. Girls ranging from ages 7 to 13 years old are invited to attend. Coaches Debbie Jamieson and Dina Condakes strive to help our girls mature in our Christian faith by demonstrating the Agganis ideals of sportsmanship, scholarship, and leadership—as well as fostering respect for one another and the community.

We are grateful to the St. George Athletic program, the Agganis Tournament Committee and the St. George Community, who is generous with its support and resources for the team each year.

HOPE & JOY

As a member of the Holy Cross community, it is a pleasure to work with the families and children of St. George’s Greek Orthodox Church. It is a gift to meet and talk with such fantastic children during our Hope and Joy sessions.

On the second Friday of each month, we gather for a family night filled with fun activities and learning. The PTA serves a delicious meal while we meet with the youth of our Church. During our first session, we discussed the Saints of the Church and I was amazed at how much our children know. In November, we discussed what Thanksgiving means, through the eyes of these young children. One must always remember that we learn from the youth as much as they learn from us.

The Church School Round Table discussion meets youth who are sophomores, juniors and seniors in high school. Here, we have the opportunity to have in-depth discussions about frustrations that the youth are experiencing, the chance for questions to be answered and to learn what a strong path in their faith shall provide for them in years to come.
